How is Brexit going? Well, today two more examples of it failing, are quite sobering. To start with over Brexit has got Australia TV presenters laughing at the trade deal with UK.
“Name 1 good export from the UK !”
“It’s hard. Black pudding ? Spice Girl CDs ? It’s more about what we can now sell to them.”
It comes as an extraordinary report in Politico detailed how Australia gained the upper hand over the UK.
During final negotiations over a dinner in Downing Street in June 2021, Boris Johnson seemingly caved in and left British farmers in trouble.
Those negotiations revolved around beef markets effectively allowing thousands more tonnes of Australian beef to enter UK markets.
Brexit Australian TV
Since the story broke, Liz Webster, chair of the Save British Food campaign group, told Yahoo News UK: “To hear we were served up in a silver salver is sickening.
“Yesterday I mourned for British farming [upon reading the report]. I mourned for the British countryside. I did cry.
“Today I am f***ing furious.
“The deceit, the arguments that have raged over Brexit for seven years… we have been called Project Fear, scaremongers… and we were right. This proves it. He [Johnson] should never be forgiven.
“It just shows the Australians saw him coming. They got him to make a huge concession and couldn’t believe their luck. It was the moment Britain was completely and utterly sold out. He sold Britain.”
Strawberry
So how is it going in the UK, well as you can see a fruit farm, that has been going for 100 years, has given up growing strawberries saying “with Brexit it became more difficult and they (140 pickers mostly from the EU) just did not feel welcome.”
Dr Mike Galsworthy tweeted the story and wrote: “More Brexit damage.
“Article also points out seasonal EU workers didn’t want to come because they didn’t feel welcome after Brexit. So many people in this country underestimate how Brexit set an unwelcoming culture & message that drove away hard workers.”
