Right to protest: Green Party Baroness Jenny Jones has lambasted the “cheating, nasty” government for attempting to “sneak” an amendment to the Public Order Bill through the “back door”.
Baroness Jones told James O’Brien: “Essentially the government is trying to bring in something that the House of Lords has already thrown out. Now, the House of Lords is not a radical structure, it’s quite a conservative place and yet we threw out a particular amendment, which was about disruption.
“The government wanted a definition which was, ‘anything more than minor’, which could be absolutely anything.”
Right to protest
Now Peter Stefanovic has given an update on Tuesday’s fatal motion
He shared the video and wrote: “IMPORTANT UPDATE on Tuesdays fatal motion.
“I make no excuses for my rage & my anger. If you share that rage, if you share that anger, sign the petition calling on @LabourLordsUK to support it”
Watch
If you support the battle against the government over this legislation and sign the petition, which is currently on 26,422 (link in tweet below)
In the petition she writes: “Labour needs to work with the other opposition parties to stop this legislation in its tracks. They have put a motion of regret, which opposes the government proposal, but doesn’t change anything.
“The government says this new law is about Just Stop Oil but in truth it will hurt anyone who ever wants to organise a protest or assembly – anyone from Friends of the Earth to local people raising an issue outside a council meeting. It allows the police and the home office to effectively decide what is a good or bad protest.”
Gina Miller
Gina Miller shared the video and wrote: “As well as Peter’s excellent video explaining the immoral, autocratic plan by the govt to deny us the right to protest, article below has more details Labour must back Baroness Jones and send the Government back to the drawing board.”
