Nadine Dorries resigns and she is standing down as an MP as of NOW.
Nadine Dorries resigns
A close ally of Boris Johnson said she was standing down “with immediate effect” and it was “time for another to take the reins”.
Announcing her decision in a tweet she said: “I have today informed the chief whip that I am standing down as the MP for Mid Bedfordshire, with immediate effect. It has been an honour to serve as the MP for such a wonderful constituency but it is now time for another to take the reins.”
It means there will be a by-election in her Mid Bedfordshire constituency, where she has a majority of 24,664.
Ms Dorries had already said she would not stand at the next general election.
Nadine Dorries a few hours ago
Adam Bienkov tweeted: “Nadine Dorries, five hours before she resigned, triggering a by-election.”
She told TalkTv there was no way she wanted to resign and cause a by-election.
