BBC’s Newsnight presenter Victoria Derbyshire interviewed a Tory MP and Boris Johnson loyalist, apologist and probably ‘truth seeker’ Brendan Clarke-Smith on the Privileges Committee report.
The presenter held him to account on every excuse and denial he made on behalf of the disgraced former PM.
However, let’s follow his day first, before he was finally closed down by Victoria Derbyshire.
Kangaroo courts
Here was his tweet in support of Boris Johnson after the former PM had been found guilty of misleading Parliament.
He wrote: “I am appalled at what I have read and the spiteful, vindictive and overreaching conclusions of the report. I won’t be supporting the recommendations and will be speaking against them both publicly and in the House on Monday. I’m backing fairness and justice – not kangaroo courts.”
Then he went on Sky News and said: “They must have some kind of crystal ball and see into people’s minds and what they knowingly did.”
Sky News added: “Tory MP @Bren4Bassetlaw says that Boris Johnson has been “treated very, very unfairly from the start” over the partygate investigation.”
No evidence
He also told Sky News: “They’ve got no evidence at all or proof that he knowingly misled the House.”
Again Sky News added: “Tory MP @Bren4Bassetlaw says the partygate report’s conclusions are “very, very unfair on Boris Johnson”.
Victoria Derbyshire
Finally, we get to his clash with Derbyshire and he doesn’t come off well, at all….
