Suella Braverman has been reinstated as home secretary, just one week after being fired over security concerns.
Liz Truss fired her, but incoming Prime Minister Rishi Sunak believes that a minor security infraction isn’t all that horrible and that Braverman deserves a second shot.
Aside from some of her more inflammatory remarks, one of Braverman’s more infamous moments was her explanation about the European Research Group (ERG).
According to her, the “explicit goal” of the pressure group of pro-Brexit Tory MPs is to “help the government in delivering a Brexit that is reflective of the referendum result, prosperous, and successful.”
In 2017, she provided the description in response to Krishnan Guru-Murthy of Channel 4 News asking Ms. Braverman if the organisation receives funding from the government.
She affirmed, “Yeah, it is funded by public funds and has been for many years.”
“We’re not sure some taxpayers are all too keen on having their money funding a lobbying group for a subject as divisive as Brexit, Suella!” said the presenter.
