The PM Rishi Sunak is trying to rally the troops as it is claimed that he is hosting a hog roast at Downing Street.
Will some apple sauce and pork in a bun bridge the division in the party?
I’ll let you answer that yourself…
It comes as the Conservatives face a number of by-elections in generally blue areas.
Sunak Hog roast
One seat is Boris Johnson’s Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency.
Politics Home claim the gathering will give MPs a chance to grill (pun intended) Sunak on the state of the Conservative Party before they depart for the lengthy summer recess next week, and they say teachers are lazy…
Difficult by-elections
Speaking as he flew to a NATO summit in Lithuania, the PM said: “Mid-term by-elections for incumbent governments are always difficult and that’s not news to anybody.
“Clearly the circumstances for these by-elections are obviously challenging.”
Sunak said: “When I was out and about in Selby there was great energy and enthusiasm from our volunteers and our members.
“I had a great time campaigning.”
The PM added: “The message I heard loud and clear from people is, ‘Just focus on the things that matter to them and make a difference on them’.”
