Alan Partridge (sorry Richard Madeley) was caught up in an argument with environmentalist Chris Packham about thee Just Stop Oil protestors, on GMB today.
It comes as, Just Stop Oil launched its biggest London slow-march protest with 200 demonstrators in at least 14 locations across the captial during rush hour.
Some motorists have been filmed taking matter into their own hands and grabbed protesters on Marylebone Road and Cromwell Road – and swinging them to the side.
Another person was seen grabbing one of the group’s banners as he drove past on a motorbike.
Arrests
The climate activist group deployed members in Bishopsgate, Whitehall, Bird Cage Walk, Aldwych, Lillie Road, Holloway Road, Jamaica Road, Islington High Street, Kensington Road, Praed Street, Wandsworth Bridge, Commercial Road, Holloway Road and Cromwell Road.
The protests yesterday saw 183 Just Stop Oil members moved off the roads and 21 campaigners arrested.
Prime minister Rishi Sunak said he would not be giving in to the ‘eco zealots’ threatening to disrupt the ‘British summer’.
Heatwave
In Europe heatwave temperatures have hit near record amid extreme weather. A high of 48C expected in Italy as red spreads across the European weather map.
In Spain, part of the land temperatures in the country went black.
Prof Eliot Jacobson also tweeted: “Code Yikes!!! Yesterday’s North Atlantic sea surface temperature just hit a new record high anomaly of 1.33°C above the 1991-2020 mean, with an average temperature of 24.39°C (75.90°F). By comparison, the next highest temperature on this date was 23.63°C (74.53°F), in 2020.”
Chris Packham Richard Madeley
This brings us to a spat between Chris Packham and Richard Madeley.
Madeley said: “I want to ask you about the tactics of Just Stop Oil.. I read that you now think their tactics… are counter productive. Is that true?”
Chris Packham: “No, it’s a misquote from the Daily fail.”
