Famous writer Irvine Welsh has took to Twitter and has not been very complimentary about Keir Starmer and the Labour Party’s performance in the three recent by-elections
The LibDems won in Somerton and Frome and Ed Davey said: “”It’s time to get these clowns out of No.10!”
Selby and Ainsty
In Selby and Ainsty new Labour MP Keir Mather joked he had “heard far worse” when asked how he felt about becoming “the Baby of the House”.
The 25-year-old will become the youngest MP in the Commons after overturning a 20,137 majority in the North Yorkshire constituency.
Tory MP Johnny Mercer didn’t take it well and compared the new MP to comedy show The Inbetweeners.
Lewis Goodall has already called Mercer out on the News Agents Podcast, saying: “There is no one better placed to understand the cost of living crisis than a 25-year-old.”
Uxbridge and South Ruislip
The Tories did hold onto Boris Johnson’s former constituency of Uxbridge and South Ruislip, Conservative Steve Tuckwell edged ahead in a closely fought contest which saw Conservative and Labour votes recounted.
Labour’s Danny Beales, who came second with 13,470 votes compared to Mr Tuckwell’s 13,965.
This was amusing when Tory Chairman, Greg Hands MP, opened his interview with “the stand-out result was the one in Uxbridge and South Ruislip” and the studio bursts out in spontaneous laughter.
However, Labour’s Uxbridge chair quit and attacked Starmer writing: “I have resigned as chair of Uxbridge and South Ruislip CLP. I am also resigning my membership of the Labour Party. Politics needs to have principles or we end up with people like Boris Johnson and Liz Truss running the country, Jeremy Corbyn gave a huge boost to the Labour Party.”
Irvine Welsh
Irvine Welsh wasn’t very impressed either writing: “Congratulations to the highly electable Sir Keir coming a strong second in the seat of the most lying, corrupt, racist privileged wanker to set foot in parliament.”
