It is a movie franchise people simply can’t get enough of! The new Alien movie has been scheduled by Disney for 2024.
This new film is actually the ninth installment of the epic horror/sci-fi universe.
Alien films back ground
- Alien (1979): Directed by Ridley Scott, “Alien” introduces the iconic creature known as the Xenomorph. The story follows the crew of the commercial spaceship Nostromo, who are returning to Earth after a mining mission. Upon receiving a mysterious distress signal from a nearby planet, they investigate, leading to the discovery of an ancient alien spacecraft. One of the crew members, Kane, is attacked by a facehugger, which attaches itself to his face. Later, a vicious creature bursts from Kane’s chest, revealing the deadly and seemingly invincible Xenomorph. The crew tries to survive and escape the spaceship while being hunted by the creature.
- Aliens (1986): Directed by James Cameron, this sequel takes place 57 years after the events of the first film. Ellen Ripley (played by Sigourney Weaver), the sole survivor of the Nostromo, is awakened from hypersleep and recruited by a military team to return to the planet where the Xenomorph was discovered. This time, they discover a colony of humans has settled on the planet, but all contact with them has been lost. Ripley joins a group of marines to investigate, leading to intense battles against a large number of Xenomorphs. The film introduces the iconic character of the young girl Newt, whom Ripley takes under her protection.
- AlienÂł (1992): Directed by David Fincher, this film picks up immediately after the events of “Aliens.” The escape pod carrying Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and the android Bishop crash-lands on a grim, maximum-security prison planet inhabited by male inmates with no weapons. Ripley soon learns that a Xenomorph was hidden on the pod, and the creature begins to wreak havoc in the prison. The film delves into themes of sacrifice and redemption as Ripley faces the ongoing nightmare of the Xenomorph.
- Alien: Resurrection (1997): Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, “Alien: Resurrection” is set 200 years after the events of “AlienÂł.” Scientists on the military vessel USM Auriga clone Ripley using DNA from blood samples collected before her death. The cloning process results in the creation of a hybrid clone with some Xenomorph DNA, granting her enhanced abilities. As the Xenomorphs onboard the ship escape their confinement, Ripley teams up with a group of mercenaries and attempts to survive the chaos.
In addition to these main films, the Alien franchise includes spin-off movies such as “Prometheus” (2012) and “Alien: Covenant” (2017), which explore the origins of the Xenomorphs and their connection to human history. There have also been crossover films like “Alien vs. Predator” (2004) and “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem” (2007), which pit the Xenomorphs against the Predators.
The Alien franchise has become a significant part of popular culture, known for its intense horror, strong female protagonist in Ellen Ripley, and the terrifying and iconic design of the Xenomorphs.

The new film is produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Don’t Breathe’s Fede Ălvarez, is set to launch on August 16, 2024, reports Variety.
This will be bad news for many though. as back in April, Ellen Ripley actress Sigourney Weaver ruled herself out of reprising the iconic heroine.
It’s fair enough, she had been through a LOT with these evil aliens!
Industry’s David Jonsson, Mare of Easttown’s Cailee Spaeny, and Shadow and Bone’s Archie Renaux are among the new stars who make up the cast for the film.
Alien TV show?
Indeed there is, FX is making a TV series carrying on the Alien theme.
The series will reportedly take place before the events of Sigourney Weaverâs encounters with Xenomorphs in the primary Alien franchise which began with Scottâs Alien in ’79 and lasted until Jean-Pierre Jeunetâs Alien: Ressurection in 1997.
Network boss John Landgraf previously teased: “It’s the first story that takes place in the Alien franchise on Earth. So, it takes place on our planet. Right near the end of this century we’re in â so 70-odd years from now.”
Fargo creator Noah Hawley is behind the show.
