PM Rishi Sunak apologises as he is in hot water again. Guess what he is in trouble for? Yep, that’s right his family finances.
The apology came about after a an investigation was triggered by the fact that Koru Kids, a childcare firm part owned by Sunak’s wife, Akshata Murty, is set to benefit from a funding measure in the budget.
The PM Rishi Sunak was asked about this policy by the Labour MP Catherine McKinnell at the Commons liasion committee.
When she asked if Sunak had anything to declare, he replied: “No. All my disclosures are declared in the normal way.”
And here is the apology from Rishi Sunak, sent to Daniel Greenberg, the parliamentary commissioner for standards on the 5th July and published yesterday.
Sunak’s apology read: “As we discussed at our meeting, I now understand that my letter to Sir Bernard [Jenkin, chair of the liaision committee] was not sufficiently expansive regarding declaration (as distinct from registration). That letter referred to media coverage of my wife’s minority shareholding and pointed to my (correct) registration of that interest under the Ministerial Code. On reflection, I accept your opinion that I should have used the letter to declare the interest explicitly.
“I apologise for these inadvertent errors and confirm acceptance of your proposal for rectification.”
Mr Greenberg said: “In accordance with the code, Ms Murty’s shareholding was a relevant interest that should have been declared during the Liaison Committee meeting on 28 March 2023.”
Daniel said that he was satisfied Sunak had “confused” the two separate registration processes.
“I formed the view that the failure to declare arose out of this confusion and was accordingly inadvertent on the part of Mr Sunak,” Mr Greenberg added..

Ironically, today he is at Beltchely Park the home of codebreaking!
His account wrote: “Bletchley Park – the home of codebreaking, and now the host of the world’s first summit on AI safety. AI can transform our lives, but we must drive international action to agree on how to develop it safely & securely. I’m looking forward to those discussions in November.”
His wife’s father’s company is a huge IT company so one wonders if they will be getting involved in this…
