The Dive is a film about being scuba diving, and yes you guessed it, being stuck underwater with time running out.
It is everyone’s worst nightmare, especially if you throw a few sharks in for good measure.
The Dive
Sophie Lowe and Louisa Krause play sisters Drew and May, driving out to dive in a hire car.
It turns out the siblings only meet once a year to dive. It seems they are not a close family.
On this dive itâs the older sister May â the tough, resourceful and calm sister â whose leg gets pinned by a boulder when a cliff slips into the sea, causing havoc beneath the waves.
And the bad news, if she needed anymore, is she only has 22 minutes of air left.
Think 127 hours featuring James Franco meets Open Water (based on the true story of two scuba divers accidentally stranded in shark infested waters after their tour boat has left).
As the Big Issue reports on the film: “As any experienced diver will tell you, things get dark very quickly once you get more than a few metres below the surface. The sisters descend through a dramatic rock formation, carving beams of light through the murk with torches and communicating via a handy intercom system built into their helmets.”
Release date
The Dive is released on 25 August in UK and Irish cinemas, and in Australian cinemas on 19 October.
One imagines the film won’t do wonder for the scuba diving industry…
