A Prince Andrew security row has left people confused and saying the same thing.
It comes as Priti Patel has apologised to the King Charles for causing “embarrassment and difficulties” after reportedly sending an email suggesting a review of the Duke of York’s armed security.
The leaked email fom Patel to the king’s principal private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton, reportedly backs the disgraced Andrew’s efforts to get his £3m-a-year security back. However, Alderton is powerless to make any changes to royal protection.
Andrew stepped away from public life after a controversial Newsnight interview in November 2019, he then paid millions to a woman he claimed he never met to settle sex abuse claims.
Dame Priti told the Sun: “It is disappointing that this correspondence has been leaked into the public domain and I apologise to His Majesty for the embarrassment and difficulties the publishing of this correspondence has caused.”
Prince Andrew security
Political commentator Ava-Santina appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss the issue.
She shared the clip and wrote: “Laughable that we’d entertain paying for Prince Andrew to receive protection. He’s not working. At best he’s a celebrity. Celebrities pay for their own security.”
Taxpayer
Good Morning Britain tweeted (X’ed): “‘Even if we’re revolted by him, you can’t just leave a senior member of the royal family to fend for themself.’ – Duncan Larcombe ‘If I can’t get protection, why should the disgraced Prince Andrew?’ – @AvaSantina Should Prince Andrew get back his taxpayer-funded security?”
This is a classic…
