Lawyer and political activist Peter Stefanovic has slammed the government’s new legislation regarding workers’ rights.
Unions have warned they could take legal action to block “tough” new anti-strike laws that Rishi Sunak could reveal within the next fortnight.
It comes as the TUC said the right to strike is a fundamental British Liberty:
‘Exercising the right to strike when negotiations break down is a fundamental British liberty. It’s not one that workers ever use lightly.
‘Going on strike in the UK today means getting past tough legal restrictions, including winning a ballot conducted by post. It also means losing pay for the days you’re on strike.
‘But when employers won’t negotiate, exercising the right to strike can be the only way to bring them back to the table.’
Shocking
Peter wrote: “Shocking new legislation intends to rob workers’ of their fundamental democratic right to strike, forcing them to work against their will Well absolute boll**** to that.
“Sign the @eiecampaign Right to Strike petition & tell this Government it can do one.”
Labour peer Baroness Chakrabarti also told Politics Home: “In a world of union-free and exploitative Amazon warehouses; one of food banks next to investment banks, his 1904 comments could not be more salient. Rights to union-recognition, collective bargaining and to withdraw labour, are merely the employee’s equivalent of property rights; including to engage in coordinated consumer or investment action against unscrupulous companies or foreign powers that exploit slave labour. How can it be regarded as conservative to further attack them?”
