Eddie Howe put Erik ten Hag straight in the lead up to the meeting tomorrow night in the Carabao cup.
Old Trafford
Newcastle United beat Manchester City in the Third Round and then landed a trip to Old Trafford, and a rerun of last season’s Wembley final, that the toon army lost.
The game is a 8.15pm kick-off live on Sky Sports.
The match will be decided on the evening via a penalty shootout if needed.
The Magpies will be backed by a sold out 7,300 fans.
Eddie Howe Erik ten Hag
Howe, who stood up to ten Hag on the touchline in their last meeting, previously said he did not know where this ‘time-wasting nonsense has come from because it’s not us’
“That’s not been our intention,” the Howe told reporters ahead of the fourth-round clash. “Our intention has just been to play the game as we feel it should be played.
“We feel we’re a high-energy, high-tempo team. We want the ball in play. We want quick games. We want to try and entertain so there’s no part of us that goes into the game in a negative frame of mind.
“A lot was made of our game management last year and I felt it was falsely reported. The stats may say something slightly different but if you watched us play, you would have seen a different style to the one that was painted in certain areas of the media.
“We will just play the game as we see it. We’re not trying to make any points or prove anything – we’re just trying to win the game.”
ten Hag fuming
Erik ten Hag was furious with his players following Manchester United’s 3-0 thrashing by Manchester City on Sunday and he forced them to listen to their rivals’
The Sun reports that United were ordered to sit in silence and listen to City’s jubilant celebrations from across the tunnel at Old Trafford. They could also hear the away fans, who were still inside the stadium and making their presence known by singing loudly.
Richard Keys has also slammed ten Hag writing in his blog : “Clearly the job is too big for Ten Hag. Clearly he’s lost his players. Clearly his ‘game plans’ are nonsense. Does he really believe that Utd were ‘toe to toe’ with City in the first-half? Clearly he’s deluded if he does.
“That was City’s easiest three points of the season. Brighton made them work harder. And Wolves. Even Sheffield United gave them more of a run for their money.”
