Suella Braverman has been FIRED from her position as home secretary after Rishi Sunak took decisive action in response to her unauthorised article criticising the policing of pro-Palestinian protests.
A source from 10 Downing Street stated that the Prime Minister “requested Suella Braverman’s departure from the Government, and she has agreed.”
The Conservatives indicated that Sunak is conducting a broader reshuffle aimed at “strengthening his government team to make enduring decisions for a more promising future.”
However, the removal of a prominent figure from the Tory right may present challenges for the Prime Minister as he endeavors to unite his party in preparation for an anticipated general election next year.
The news of Mrs. Braverman’s departure coincided with Defense Minister James Heappey making the rounds on various broadcast studios. Just minutes before her dismissal, he had assured LBC that Mr. Sunak and the No 10 team had unequivocally expressed confidence in Mrs. Braverman, implying that she would likely continue in her role.
However, while on ITV Good Morning Britain, Heappey was informed on air that she had been sacked. This left him saying, “Your viewers will be enjoying my discomfort, but it is, in this case, difficult to offer commentary when I just don’t know what is going on.”
Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey remarked, “Suella Braverman was never fit to be Home Secretary. Rishi Sunak knew this, and he still appointed her. It was the Prime Minister’s sheer cowardice that kept her in the job even for this long. We are witnessing a broken party and a broken Government, both of which are breaking this country.”
