Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans shared on Saturday that his eldest child has recently come out as transgender. During an appearance on “The Breakfast Club” podcast, the “White Chicks” star candidly discussed his child’s transition and its impact on him.
Wayans, 51, revealed, “I have a daughter that transitioned into a son. My daughter Amai is now Kai, and so, I talk about the transition.” He elaborated on his own evolution as a parent, expressing, “Not his … their transition, but my transition as a parent, going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance.”
The Post reached out to Wayans for further commentary on the matter.
During the podcast, Wayans shared that his upcoming comedy show, tentatively titled “Rainbow Child” or “Skittles,” aims to support parents navigating similar situations. He emphasized, “I think there’s a lot of parents out there that need that message, and I know I’m dealing with it.” The “Scary Movie” actor acknowledged the initial difficulty of the situation but noted, “It was a very painful situation for me, but, man, it’s one of the best hours I could ever imagine.”
“They know. They know I love them,” he explained. “They see me try and they’re like, ‘I’m happy’.”
Wayans explained that any confusion or ignorance he previously had regarding transgender people was quickly pushed aside once his son came out as trans, adding that accepting his kid for who they are was pretty much a no-brainer.
“I gotta respect their wishes and as a parent I just want my kids to be free – free in spirit, free in thought, free to be themselves,” he shared.
