The possibility of a junior doctors’ strike is building and lawyer Peter Stefanovic has thrown his support behind the medical staff in a new viral video.
It comes as NHS health workers, transport workers and possibly teachers walking out in the coming months.
Now Downing Street has warned health ministers they will have to find savings from their own budget if they want to offer NHS workers more money.
This is likely to increase the calls for industrial action.
Junior doctors, as a phrase, is slightly misleading, they are qualified doctors in clinical training. They can have more than 10 years experience working as a hospital doctor or at least three years as a GP.
About 45,000 junior doctors are being balloted for strike action. They are calling for better pay after they were excluded from an NHS pay rise this year.
Shoulder to shoulder
Peter Stefanovic’s video explains why the doctors are not money grabbing but just want to ensure they are not given, what would amount, a real-terms pay cut.
He also calls into question the ‘impartiality’ of the pay review board for NHS staff.
What the government say is an independent decision, is called out, and even some MPs have admitted as such.
