Next spring will see the start of filming for Welcome To Derry, the tale of Pennywise the clown’s beginnings.
The authors of Welcome to Derry are Jason Fuchs, Barbara Muschietti, and Andy Muschietti. To helm the pilot, Andy Muschietti is in discussions. He might oversee more episodes.
The IT prequel still has a lot of unreleased information. Since the project’s announcement, there hasn’t been much activity. In a deleted tweet, author Shelley Mears stated that a writer’s room was set up in June 2022. The post included an emoji of the recognisable red balloon from the series and read, “We float down here,” on the first day of the writers room, which was June 14.
Stephen King is not involved with the IT prequel series, despite his role as creator of the franchise! The legendary writer expressed interest in the potential of the story Muschietti is seeking to tell with Welcome To Derry.
“It’s an interesting possibility to do that. They talked about a prequel. Which struck me as an OK idea. I’d love to see what Pennywise was up to 27 years before the ’50s. Or, I guess it would be the ’80s, because they updated the [setting]. So it would be, you know, before World War II or something. It’ll be interesting to see what will happen with that.”

Welcome To Derry is getting ready to film in Toronto in April 2023. Casting is presently taking place. Now more than ever, Pennywise will make his triumphant comeback.
