Warner Bros. has just dropped the highly-anticipated second trailer for “Furiosa,” the post-apocalyptic prequel to the acclaimed “Mad Max: Fury Road,” directed by George Miller. The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy in the titular role of Imperator Furiosa, a character originally portrayed by Charlize Theron in the 2015 series reboot.
In this latest installment, viewers are taken on a journey into the origins of Furiosa’s character, as she is forcibly removed from her sanctuary in the Green Place of Many Mothers and thrust into the brutal reality of the barren wasteland. Alongside Taylor-Joy, the cast includes Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.
The trailer showcases Taylor-Joy’s transformation into the fierce warrior, complete with her iconic robotic arm and a drastic haircut, as she navigates the treacherous landscape. Flashbacks reveal a younger Furiosa’s abduction by a gang of motorbike-riding marauders, setting the stage for her relentless quest for revenge against Hemsworth’s enigmatic leader.
“Furiosa” marks the fifth installment in the “Mad Max” franchise, with George Miller returning as director and co-writer alongside Nico Lathouris. The previous entry, “Mad Max: Fury Road,” starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult, garnered widespread acclaim, earning $380 million at the box office and securing ten Academy Award nominations. The film clinched Oscars for editing, sound, production design, makeup and hairstyling, and costume design.
Bringing continuity to the project, several key crew members from “Fury Road” are reprising their roles for “Furiosa,” including editor Margaret Sixel, costume designer Jenny Beavan, and composer Junkie XL. However, cinematographer John Seale will be succeeded by Simon Dugan, with Seale concluding his illustrious career with the Miller-directed film “Three Thousand Years of Longing.”
Audiences can mark their calendars for the thrilling return of Furiosa as the film speeds into theaters on May 24, 2024. Warner Bros. has also confirmed that “Furiosa” will be presented in IMAX, promising an immersive cinematic experience. Catch a glimpse of the action in the newly released trailer below.
