Inspectors have called for ‘major improvements’ at Chicken Delight in Stoke, Coventry, after finding food stored in a ‘mouldy cardboard box.’ The takeaway, located on Heath Road, received a one-star hygiene rating from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) following an inspection in April.
During the visit, inspectors found that hygiene practices at Chicken Delight were below the required standard. Coventry City Council reported that significant improvements were needed, particularly concerning systems to ensure food safety and cleanliness.
Food was found stored at room temperature, contrary to regulations which require food to be cooked and held hot above 63°C or cooled and stored below 8°C within 90 minutes. Inspectors also reported a buildup of food debris beneath equipment and ‘dirty’ extractors.
A strong odour of rotting chicken was detected in the walk-in chiller, and officials advised that the walls, floors, and shelving should be ‘thoroughly cleaned.’ Vegetables were found stored in a ‘mouldy cardboard box,’ further raising concerns about food safety.
Structural issues were also identified, including a damaged ceiling in poor condition following a leak. Inspectors told the business that urgent repairs were needed to provide a ‘smooth and cleanable surface.’
