JK Rowling’s announcement of a casting call for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series has ignited calls for a boycott, with critics outraged by the author’s controversial views on gender identity.
The casting call, which aims to find new actors for the iconic roles of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, has drawn excitement from fans. However, detractors, especially from the trans rights community, have wasted no time calling for a boycott, accusing Rowling of promoting anti-trans sentiments.
