Reform UK MP Lee Anderson has faced backlash for what has been labelled as “misogynistic and degrading” comments during a heated exchange with journalist Rebecca Reid on GB News.
The pair clashed over the issue of MPs holding second jobs, a topic that has come under scrutiny as the newly formed Modernisation Committee considers stricter rules to prevent serving MPs from hosting TV shows.
The committee, set up to reform parliamentary procedures and chaired by Lucy Powell, leader of the House of Commons, is exploring ways to restore public trust by potentially banning MPs from media appearances.
Several Conservative MPs, including Jacob Rees-Mogg and Anderson, have hosted shows on GB News, while Nigel Farage, Anderson’s boss at Reform UK, continues to earn an eye-watering £98,000 a month from the channel.
During the debate, Reid voiced support for the idea of tightening rules on MPs’ second jobs, particularly their media roles. Anderson, visibly irritated by her stance, referred to her as a “young lady,” a remark that quickly drew criticism for its outdated and patronising tone.
Reid’s sharp response to Anderson left viewers comparing the exchange to something out of the 1970s, with social media users praising her for “owning” Anderson in the debate.
