Two men, Marshall Maddock and Harry Hewitson, were caught trying to smuggle ketamine into the Creamfields music festival by hiding the drugs in Kinder eggs concealed in their bodies. The incident occurred on Friday, August 25 last year, as the pair attempted to enter the festival through the North gate in Daresbury.
Sniffer dogs alerted officers, leading to both men being stopped and searched. Maddock, 21, initially handed over a small amount of drugs but refused a further search. Officers conducted an intimate search, discovering a Kinder egg filled with 10 bags of ketamine in his anus. Hewitson, 22, also refused a search but was found with a similar Kinder egg containing ketamine hidden in the same manner.
Both men were sentenced at Chester Crown Court on October 4. Maddock, from Rudheath, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after admitting possession of class A drugs (cocaine) and class B drugs (ketamine) with intent to supply. Hewitson, from Northwich, was also sentenced to 18 months for possession of class B drugs (ketamine) with intent to supply.
Following the sentencing, PC Lisa Green commented, “Maddock and Hewitson were well aware of the law and had multiple opportunities to re-think what they were doing. Despite amnesty bins being available at the entrance, they chose to continue their efforts to smuggle illegal drugs.”
She added, “While most festivalgoers at Creamfields are respectful, those caught smuggling drugs will face legal consequences.”
