Recently Sajid Javid said that patients should be charged for A&E visits and GP appointments.
Javid said that £20 fees for GP appointments could be a possible new plan.
He called the present model of the NHS “unsustainable”.
In an op-ed for The Times, he called for a “grown-up, hard-headed conversation” about revamping the health service, noting that “too often the appreciation for the NHS has become a religious fervour and a barrier to reform”.
Former Labour PM Gordon Brown wrote, that Javid’s intervention was “no accident”, noting that Rishi Sunak used the services of private healthcare and, when, campaigning to become prime minister, had proposed a charge for people who missed GP appointments.
