Sony has confirmed that Jumanji 3 will premiere in cinemas on 11 December 2026. This pre-Christmas release matches the timing of the previous films in the franchise. Fans can look forward to the film taking over IMAX and premium screens for its opening weekend.
Beloved cast and director set to return
Director Jake Kasdan and stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are all expected to return. The main cast and production team, including producers Matt Tolmach, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Kasdan, are currently in talks.
A busy December release lineup
Jumanji 3 arrives one week before big competitors, including Disney’s untitled Star Wars film and Warner Bros.’ planned Dune 3, both set for release on 18 December 2026.
Jumanji’s journey from classic to blockbuster
The original Jumanji, released in 1995 with Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst, became a global hit, earning $262.8 million. It followed kids who accidentally unleash a jungle board game in their hometown. In 2017, director Jake Kasdan and Dwayne Johnson rebooted the franchise with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, where characters get trapped in a video game. That film earned $962.5 million worldwide, followed by Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019, which added $801.6 million. The franchise has since grossed over $2 billion globally.
Other projects by Kasdan and Johnson
This November, Kasdan and Johnson will reunite for Red One, a $200 million Amazon MGM holiday movie featuring Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, J.K. Simmons, and Kiernan Shipka. The film, opening on 15 November, follows Santa Claus, played by Simmons, who needs saving by his head of security, played by Johnson.
