Elon Musk’s own AI platform, Grok, has turned the spotlight on its creator, labelling the billionaire a “significant spreader of misinformation.” Designed to add a humorous twist to AI responses, Grok delivered a biting critique of Musk’s activities on the social media platform X.
Grok’s Surprising Verdict
Grok, integrated into Musk’s X platform, was created to rival other AI tools like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. However, when a user asked the AI about Musk’s influence on spreading information, Grok did not hold back.
“Elon Musk has been identified as one of the most significant spreaders of misinformation on X since acquiring the platform,” the AI replied. It went on to cite criticisms of Musk’s posts related to political events, elections, COVID-19, and conspiracy theories.
The response also highlighted Musk’s interactions with controversial figures and accounts known for promoting misinformation, adding to the perception of his role in spreading false narratives.
A Disclaimer on Misinformation
While Grok’s assessment is damning, it did include a disclaimer. The AI noted that the definition of “misinformation” is often subjective and can depend on ideological stances—a point Musk has frequently emphasised in his public statements.
Musk’s Ties to Trump
Musk’s relationship with misinformation claims has coincided with his alignment with Donald Trump. Following an attempted assassination on the former president, Musk publicly endorsed Trump and joined his campaign trail. He has since been appointed to work in the upcoming Trump administration on “government efficiency.”
Though Musk’s ventures in AI and government might raise eyebrows, Grok’s response has offered an unexpected—and humbling—moment for the billionaire.
