A Danish Member of the European Parliament (MEP) stunned colleagues by telling Donald Trump to “f**k off” in a public session. Anders Vistisen, a right-wing Danish lawmaker, lashed out after the former US president suggested taking control of Greenland—an autonomous Danish territory.
Trump’s Greenland Ambitions
In recent days, Trump has floated the idea of buying or even using military might to gain Greenland. His remarks have angered Denmark, which insists the island is absolutely not for sale. MEP Anders Vistisen took it a step further by unleashing an expletive-laden message in the European Parliament.
“Greenland has been part of the Danish Kingdom for 800 years,” Vistisen said. “It’s an integrated part of our country. It is not for sale.”
He then added:
“Let me put it in words you might understand—Mr. Trump, f**k off!”
Reprimand in the Chamber
European Parliament Vice President Nicolae Stefanuta quickly admonished Vistisen for his language. Stefanuta stressed that, “Regardless of what we think of Mr. Trump,” swearing is not allowed in Parliament. He warned that Vistisen’s words would have consequences.
The MEP’s Defiance
Far from apologising, Vistisen posted a clip of his outburst on X, captioned:
“Greenland is not for sale. Greenland has been part of Denmark for 800 years—more than twice as long as the US has existed. Any true patriot should see this as an unacceptable attack on national sovereignty!”
His comments reflect a fierce backlash in Denmark against any suggestion that Greenland—an essential part of the Danish realm—could become a bargaining chip in international politics.
