Boris Johnson has thrown his weight behind Donald Trump’s controversial plan for Ukraine. The former PM insists the deal—trading Ukraine’s mineral wealth for US military support—is almost done, despite President Zelenskyy rejecting it outright.
Trump’s Big Offer: Weapons for Wealth
Trump wants access to $500 billion worth of Ukraine’s natural resources in exchange for American weapons. That’s five times the $100 billion the US has already given Ukraine since Russia’s invasion.
However, Zelenskyy isn’t having it. Speaking on Sunday, he made his stance clear:
“I’m not signing something that 10 generations of Ukrainians are going to pay later.”
Boris Johnson Thinks It’s a ‘Fair Price’
Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Johnson claimed the deal was close to being finalised.
“That commits the US not only to future financing of Ukraine but also to a free, sovereign and secure Ukraine under Donald Trump—and that is not to be sneezed at.”
He acknowledged that some might see the arrangement as exploitative but argued it was fair in the grand scheme of things.
“America has a history of demanding a price for its support. From where I stand today, I think that price for Ukraine is reasonable.”
But Even Boris Won’t Back Trump’s Wildest Claims
Despite his support for the minerals deal, Johnson dismissed Trump’s bizarre suggestion that Ukraine started the war.
“You might as well blame the girl for attacking the shark in Jaws—it is just total rubbish.
With Ukraine’s future at stake, the debate over this deal isn’t going away anytime soon.
