Nigel Farage has accused Volodymyr Zelenskyy of showing “no respect” to Donald Trump—all because he didn’t wear a suit to the White House.
Instead of criticising Trump’s extraordinary Oval Office bust-up with the Ukrainian president, the Reform UK leader focused on Zelenskyy’s wardrobe.
Trump and Vance turn on Zelenskyy
On Friday, Trump and his vice-president, JD Vance, launched a pre-planned attack on Zelenskyy. They accused him of not showing enough gratitude for America’s military aid, despite Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
At one point, a journalist even asked why Zelenskyy wasn’t wearing a suit. The Ukrainian leader has worn military-style clothes since the war began.
Farage: ‘I’d make sure I was wearing a suit’
Speaking on LBC this morning, Farage claimed Zelenskyy had played the situation “very badly”.
“I wouldn’t expect a guest to be rude to me in my own house. I would expect a guest to treat me with respect.”
When asked if the White House suit question was fair, Farage doubled down:
“If I turned up at the White House, I’d make sure I was wearing a suit and my shoes were cleaned, absolutely.”
However, when Nick Ferrari pointed out that Winston Churchill also didn’t wear a suit at the White House during WWII, Farage fired back:
“Well, he wasn’t dealing with President Trump.”
According to Farage, Zelenskyy should have known better than to ‘bowl in’ without considering Trump’s old-fashioned views on appearance.
Farage dodges Trump criticism
MPs across the political spectrum condemned Trump and Vance for their treatment of Zelenskyy. However, Farage—a long-time Trump ally—took over 12 hours to respond.
When he finally posted on X, he described the clash as a “spat”, carefully avoiding any direct criticism of Trump.
