The UK government has accused a company linked to the Conservative peer Michelle Mone of supplying defective gowns.
It is a bit after the horse has bolted as the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) paid the company, PPE Medpro, £122m for 25m sterile surgical gowns under a contract awarded in June 2020.
PPE Medpro won contracts through the so-called VIP lane in 2020, after being recommended by Tory peer Baroness Mone.
Mone offered to help the government get PPE, as the pandemic was killing thousands everyday.
She has previously denied via her lawyers that she had any involvement in the company.
However, the Guardian reported last year, based on leaked files, that she did appear to have been secretly involved.
