A video clip from 30 years ago from John Cleese seems to be even more essential viewing today.
The ex-Python ironically argues for the advantages for “extremism,” which include how it makes you “feel good” because it “provides you with enemies.” Get it?
“If you have a lot of anger and resentment in you anyway, and you therefore enjoy abusing people, then you can pretend that you’re only doing it because these enemies of yours are such very bad persons,” Cleese deadpanned.
“And if it wasn’t for them, you’d actually be good-natured and courteous and rational all the time.”
He shared the clip again recently and wrote: “Have we talked about the advantages of extremism lately? What did I miss?”
Of all people, Joe Rogan also shared his clip but it seems he missed the point as well.
Mr Cleese replied: “If Joe Rogan was better informed, he would lose a lot listeners.”
Trump supporters
He also shared his thoughts about Trump supporters, when he wrote: “I don’t think that Trump supporters care about what the rest of the world thinks That’s because they don’t know where the rest of the world is.”
