Bring out your lettuce – Liz Truss has staged a comeback!
Guess who she blamed for tanking the economy so badly we nearly went bust? That’s right, the left-wing economic establishment.
Those pesky governors of the Bank of England are often seen out on the picket line with Jeremy Corbyn.
Ms Truss’s brief premiership lasted just 49 days as she was forced to quit after Kwasi Kwarteng’s £45 billion package of unfunded tax cuts panicked the markets and tanked the pound. The UK’s stock and bond markets lost an estimated $500 billion
She writes: “I assumed upon entering Downing Street that my mandate would be respected and accepted,” she goes on. “How wrong I was. While I anticipated resistance to my programme from the system, I underestimated the extent of it.
“Similarly, I underestimated the resistance inside the Conservative parliamentary party to move to a lower-tax, less-regulated economy.”
