Grant Shapps was put on the spot when asked about a potential slogan and would it win the next election for the Tories.
It comes as ex PM Liz Truss is blaming the left-wing ‘economic establishment’ for ousting her.
Her radical tax-cutting budget roiled financial markets, sank the pound, took British pension plans to the brink of collapse and led to a revolt within her own Conservative Party.
Shapps
Do you believe Truss? Well, no nobody does, perhaps herself maybe.
Either way the UK economy is screwed that isn’t really up for debate.
With that in mind C4 presenter Andrew Neil asked Grant Shapps: ‘We’ve made Britain poorer than Slovenia, is that an election winning slogan?’
The FT noted that “median incomes in the UK are well below those in places such as Norway, Switzerland or the US and well below the average of developed countries. Incomes of the poor, those at the 10th percentile, are lower in the UK than in Slovenia.”
