Chris McCarthy, the executive from Paramount Global who was given control of Showtime last year, is intensifying his plans for the premium cable network’s franchise.
Dexter: Origins, a prequel series that will explain the genesis narrative of Michael C. Hall’s serial killer drama that debuted on Showtime in 2006 and was part of a wave of antiheroes that enthralled audiences, would tell the story of the serial killer’s beginnings, McCarthy revealed on Monday.
New Blood
Dexter: New Blood is being renewed by Showtime as well, and it will “depict the ongoing emergence of Dexter’s kid Harrison.”
Even more to come? Trinity?
The cabler added that it is investing more in the Dexter franchise, which will explore some of the most recognisable characters from the program’s past.
This contains the renowned Trinity Killer played by John Lithgow.
The franchise will be managed by Dexter creator Clyde Phillips, who also created New Blood and served as showrunner for the first four seasons (including the season with Trinity).

The series âwill dramatize young Dexter Morgan at the outset of his transition into the avenging serial killer he would become. Set in the Miami that was a hotbed of real serial killers of his time, the show will begin as Dexter graduates college to join Miami Metro, where he meets younger versions of many of the characters we came to know in the original Dexter. And, of course, the show will also focus on Dexterâs family, including a very-much-alive Harry and a very formidable, teenage Deb.â
