Hulu and 20th Century Studios have released a new teaser for White Men Can’t Jump, an upcoming remake of a classic sports movie in which rapper Jack Harlow makes his feature film debut.
Kamal Allen and Harlow’s character Jeremy show up for a pickup basketball game in the 30-second clip (Sinqua Walls).
Kamal inquires as to how much money Jeremy brought himself as it appears that Jeremy is asking for a loan to pay for the game. “$80…minus $60,” responds Jeremy.
After then, the trailer switches to a montage of Harlow and Walls playing basketball while an off-screen voice can be heard saying, “What’s up with your boy?”
The phrase “the Paul Thomas Anderson of psychological warfare” is also used by Jeremy.
The brief teaser ends with Jeremy and Kamal disagreeing about who is the best living director—Anderson or Spike Lee—while discussing movies.
In addition to Harlow and Walls, the movie also features Tatiana Maslany, Lance Reddick, and Laura Harrier.
Plot details…
Most of the film’s plot contents are kept a secret. White Men Can’t Jump, on the other hand, is a contemporary remake of the same-named 1992 movie.
In that movie, Woody Harrelson played Billy Hoyle, a former collegiate basketball star turned streetball hustler who is able to easily win wagers since people assume he can’t play basketball because he is white.
The movie starred Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. Later, Harrelson partners up with another streetball player, Syd Deane, played by Wesley Snipes, and the two collaborate during a basketball game outside. Tyra Ferrell and Rosie Perez both appeared in the original movie.
Though it’s uncertain how closely the remake will resemble the 1992 original, additional story specifics should become known as the movie nears release.
Release date
White Men Can’t Jump will begin streaming on Hulu starting May 19.
