Jim Carrey will reprise his role as Dr. Seuss’s most well-known and irritable invention for The Grinch 2 at Universal Pictures, it is heavily rumoured.
The actor who played Sonic the Hedgehog is reportedly returning to the role after a 20-year break, which seems standard for the star.
The Grinch 2 continues Jim Carrey’s recent propensity to appear in sequels, even though it’s unclear exactly what he could be stealing this time (or how big his heart will swell to).
Jim Carrey may be back for The Grinch 2, but not so long ago, the actor famously opposed taking part in any follow-ups to his films.
After shooting Ace Venture 2: When Nature Calls in 1995, Carrey vowed to stop creating sequels to his movies for a very long time, later declaring:
“I find sequels are a product of capitalism for the most part. At least the two I’ve played were characters I enjoyed playing, but at that time I almost felt like I was repeating myself.”
In recent years, Jim Carrey has starred in a prequel to 2003’s Bruce Almighty, a Sonic the Hedgehog sequel, and a follow-up to 1994’s Dumb and Dumber.
He has also stated his desire to film a sequel to 2003’s Dumb and Dumber (following a Steve Carrell sequel he again was not involved in).
Jim Carrey’s inclusion in The Grinch 2 thus seems nearly inescapable.
