Controversial MP Jonathan Gullis MP is taught a lesson (he was a teacher you know!) on why asylum seekers ‘don’t seek refuge’ somewhere else – like Germany, or France.
It comes as Home secretary Suella Braverman says frustration with accommodation for asylum seekers is “understandable” amid demonstrations erupting into violence.
Around 15 people were arrested after violence erupted during a demonstration outside the Suites Hotel in Knowsley, Merseyside, in violent and distressing scenes.
More protests have been planned around the country.
Braverman said housing asylum seekers in hotels is “causing understandable tensions within communities, pressures on local resources, and is frankly unsustainable”.
Schooled
It was Zoe Gardner that put Gullis on the naughty step.
“France received three times as many applications as we did last year”, Gardner says.
“But the people who are making their way to England, and who specifically wish to come to the UK do so because they have ties to this country.”
