Rishi Sunak has a new plan to ban refugees arriving in the UK by small boat, which even senior Tories admit pushes boundaries of international law, but will not break it, they claim.
Under the new illegal migration bill, asylum claims from those who travel to the UK in small boats will be inadmissible.
Arrivals will be removed to a third country and banned from ever returning or claiming citizenship.

Michelle Donelan got a grilling on BBC Breakfast, when she insisted there were ‘safe’ routes to the UK for asylum seekers.
The sticking point? She refused to say what they were.
“What is the legal route, if you’re Iranian, fearing persecution, and want to come to the UK?”, asked presenter Sally Nugent.
Donelan then responsed with: “I’m not going to get into the specifics.
“There are safe routes available”, she added before insisting the government ‘would be opening up more’.
