The government has today warned that 100 million people could be entitled to asylum in the UK under current rules as she unveiled a radical overhaul.
But it has been met with claims of scaremongering and using a very similar argument in the run up to the Brexit vote.
This tweet is one of many examples…
Braverman gave the figure and insisted they are ‘coming here’ as she said tough new legislation will ‘allow us to stop the boats’.
Dismissing ‘naive’ Labour jeers, she said the need for reform was ‘obvious and urgent’ after 45,000 made the perilous Channel crossing last year.
This video is a must watch on the claims.
SNP
But it was Patrick Grady (SNP) who asked the question we all wanted to ask: He asked Braverman if she has ever met anyone who came to the UK on a small boat to asks about their hopes for the future, or look them in the eye and say they are not welcome.
Braverman ignored the question and says the bill provides a pragmatic solution.
Yvette Cooper
Yvette Cooper took Braverman to task a number of times!
