Sam Raimi, the director of Drag Me to Hell 2, has stated that Ghost House Studios is “trying to come up with a story” for the sequel.
Raimi revealed his production company was ideating a Drag Me to Hell sequel during a recent Reddit AMA (via Collider). “[Ghost House production head] Romel Adam and [director of development] Jose Canas are trying to come up with a story that would work and I’m anxious to hear if they do!” Raimi said in response to a question about the possibility of a sequel.
Raimi co-wrote and directed the 2009 horror flick Drag Me to Hell. Alison Lohman plays Christine Brown, a loan officer who has been cursed by a bank customer. Christine has three days to break the curse before being taken to hell with the aid of her boyfriend Clay (Justin Long). There was no information provided about the proposed sequel’s plot.
Drag Me to Hell, Raimi’s first movie following the Spider-Man trilogy, tripled its projected budget at the box office with over $90 million USD in revenue. It had an identical level of critical success, earning a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It received a 9 in IGN’s own Drag Me to Hell Review.
The sequel to Evil Dead, Evil Dead Rising, will be released on April 21. Lee Cronin, who directed the film, hired Raimi as an executive producer.
