Unless you have turned off all TV, phones and the internet (imagine the bliss?!) you will know that Gary Lineker made a comment about the government’s asylum bill, the MSM went mad, he lost his job, everyone on presenting team went on strike and now he is back…the end!
Sort of.
John Barnes
Now, England and Liverpool legend John Barnes is being praised for his support of fellow ex football player Gary Lineker over the ongoing refugee row.
He spoke on Sky News and helped to open up conversations around the refugee crisis.
The government has said anyone caught making the perilous crossing will be deported “in weeks” and banned from ever re-entering the country.
John Barnes said that Rishi Sunak hasn’t done enough to ensure a “safe and legal route” for them to come before claiming asylum.
Syrians vs Ukrainians
In particular, he compared the difference between the treatment of Syrians vs Ukrainians.
Barnes said: “We don’t hear language round the Ukrainians refugees talking about rapists and murderers, but we hear it about the Iraqis and Syrians.”
“The language used in terms of creating this perception of an unworthy refugee is very much like the Jews were unworthy to be German.”
