Boris Johnson is currently in the privileges committee and is trying his best to save his politial career.
He kicked off the session saying: “As you have said chair, the purpose of this inquiry is not to reopen so-called partygate.
I”t is to discover whether or not I lied to parliament, willingly misled colleagues and the country about what I knew and believed about those gatherings when I said the rules and the guidance had been followed at No 10.
“I’’m here to say to you hand on heart that I did not lie to the House.
“When those statements were made, they were made in good faith and on the basis on what I honestly knew and believed at the time.”

However, the sight of Johnson promising that he wouldn’t lie by holding a bible, was too much for a lot of people.
Harriet Harman said the evidence raises ‘clear questions and this is Mr Johnson’s opportunity to give us his answers’ before asking him to take the oath.
He swore to tell the truth before issuing an apology and adding ‘hand on heart, I did not lie to the House’.
If the committee MPs find against him, they will decide a punishment, which could be a written apology, docking of salary or suspension from the Commons for a specific period.
