Talk TV is always a nice spot for some dog-whistle politics.
Tory MP Johnathan Gullis was chatting about extinction rebellion and their ‘threats,’ he also said they fund the Labour party, which is a big call.
Anyway, he said that if any of the environmental group appear in his constituency of Stoke-on-Trent they would be sent back to North London, to eat avocados and chai lattes.
As it was TalkTV this type of chat went down very well.
It isn’t the first time…
He said: “They are definitely avocado-eating, chai latte drinking, sourdough with almond butter wokerati who are desperately out of touch with the people of Stoke-on-Trent, Kidsgrove and Talke. Don’t let them ruin the council where they wasted £60 million on new council offices, half-a-million on the Chelsea Flower Show, or £450,000 on fancy meals in London
“This is a council that’s been busy, out and about, standing up for you, day in, day out, delivering over £100 million of investment and there’s more to come. So carry on trusting the Tories
Cringe
Charlotte Nichols, Labour MP for Warrington North, tweeted: “Enjoying watching Jenrick absolutely cringe his way through this drivel. You can buy everything Gullis has listed there at any Lidl in the country for about a fiver all in but he’s acting like it’s lobster and champagne, or means anything.
“Something pretty patronising about a Tory MP from an expensive private school background trying to position himself as the authentic voice of the working class and deciding no-one can buy or like pretty basic things like avocados because that’s ‘woke’ now.”
Here he is defending himself over the comments.
