John Redwood is the Tory of Tories, a Brexiter with ideas so wild and fanciful you assume he is a parody account or just having a laugh. Imperial measures is today’s obsession.
However, he isn’t fake he is real, but a ban he wants in undo isn’t real.
Confused? So are we!
Oh Dear John #694958495959
So, today he tweeted: “Why not repeal the ban on selling in pounds and ounces? Let People decide how to buy and sell.”
He probably has a framed picture of the ‘metric martyrs’ above his mantelpiece.
Imperial measures
Here is he tweet in all its ‘glory’
The issue John seems to have missed is that even while the UK was part of the EU, it wasn’t illegal to sell in pounds and ounces, just like it wasn’t illegal to have a crown on a beer glass.
The rule was you had to offer the metric measurement available alongside the Imperial, so nobody would get confused…
Bonfire
It comes as Jacob Rees-Mogg blasts ‘idle’ civil servants for delaying ‘bonfire’ of EU laws and says scrubbing Brussels rules isn’t ‘whimsical euroscepticism’ but will help ease cost-of-living crisis.
Also Mogg accused PM Rishi Sunak ‘behaving like a Borgia’ over EU laws bonfire U-turn.
