A populist-right movement gathering for first UK ‘NatCon’ conference seeks to revive spirit of Brexit poll triumphs. National Conservative conference is here to stay, well for three days anyway.
The National Conservatism Conference shows that all is not lost in the battle against wokery, claims Conservative Home.
Watch is National Conservatism?
“National conservatism” was born out of the Brexit referendum and the Conservative 2019 election victory.
These pivotal moments were an “instruction from the public that they expect us to govern with their interests, their values in mind. Not the values of the intelligentsia – the globalised elite whose loyalties are to everyone and no one.”
This message was brought to you by Tory MP Miriam Cates.
Miriam Cates has won applause for declaring that “liberal individualism has proved to be completely powerless to resist a cultural Marxism that is systematically destroying our children’s souls”.
It is that type of crowd, just a really welcoming bunch…
What has gone one?
Well the he three-day “NatCon” conference in Westminster has seen the right wing of the right wing flock to listen to series of quite worrying speeches.
Here is Labour MP Jonathan Ashworth slamming The Home Secretary, Suella Braverman’s speech “criticising the policies of the Home Secretary & the Tory govt was extraordinary.. “
Among other speakers in London are JD Vance, the Trump-endorsed Ohio senator, and Rod Dreher, a US writer who is a noted Orbán supporter.
Protests at National Conservative conference
As Peter Walker tweets: “The afternoon session begins with a speech by Suella Braverman, who is immediately interrupted by not one but two separate protestors from – I think – Extinction Rebellion. Both are led out my security people.”
Here it is…
And when Jacob Rees-Mogg took to the stage he was immediately joined by. a protestors who was manhandled out.
He then went on to admit the Tories tried and failed at gerrymandering with the voter ID changes.
Banned
They also rejected applications for press tickets from openDemocracy, Byline Times, Novara Media and JOE “due to high demand and limited space” weeks in advance. It seems the left-leaning publications were not welcome at the hoedown.
