The Daily Mail front page today has got people shaking their heads (as per).
This time they accuse Labour leader Starmer of trying to rig polls by using EU citizens to win votes.
They write: “Sir Keir Starmer told a conference at the weekend that he expects the next general election to get ‘dirty and nasty’. Now we know what he means.
“If Labour wins next year, Starmer plans to rig future elections by giving the vote to millions of EU nationals, plus millions more 16 and 17-year-olds.
“The plan would mean that 3.4million EU citizens with ‘settled status’ would be eligible to vote. Another 2.6million are ‘pre-settled’ and would doubtless be fast-tracked by Labour.”
Voter ID
Well, this seems a bit churlish as there has been a huge argument about the new rules that meant you had to show ID when you voted, when electoral fraud is basically zero in the UK.
Here is Angela Rayner slamming the new law.
Now, as the Tories crashed out in local elections, Jacob Rees-Mogg appears to have accepted that it actually worked against the party and appears to confess that the scheme was deliberate gerrymandering by the Tories.
Central bylines wrote: “Quite a remarkable admission from Jacob Rees Mogg. “Parties that try and gerrymander end up finding that their clever scheme comes back to bite them. As we found by insisting on voter ID”
And here…
You may agree with James O’Brien on LBC. He said: ”That would’ve mattered once. It might even have been career-ending.’
