It seems the Daily Mail have ‘missed’ the big story of the day. Their Brexit loving chum Jacob Rees-Mogg handed them a silver bullet. He admitted gerrymandering.
He told the National Conservatism conference (sounds as sinister as it is) that his party did introduce voter ID an attempt at “gerrymandering” elections.
However, the plan “came back to bite them”, he said, as it was older Tory voters who were put off by the change.
Gerrymandering
He said: We found the people who didn’t have ID were elderly and they by and large voted Conservative, so we made it hard for our own voters and we upset a system that worked perfectly well.”
Daily Mail gerrymandering
So for the SECOND day running the paper splashed a Labour plot to use EU citizens to rig polls.
Today’s story is an exclusive from Michael Gove who told the paper that the Labour leader urgently needed to answer claims that he wants to undermine Brexit by granting EU citizens the vote.
In a strongly-worded letter, the Cabinet minister challenged Labour’s leader to respond to the charge that the policy would ‘rig’ future elections.
Gove said Sir Keir was seeking to ‘downgrade the ultimate privilege of British citizenship’ by letting migrants help decide who runs the UK’.
In his letter, printed in the paper, Gove asked: ‘Why do you think it’s right to downgrade the ultimate privilege of British citizenship – the right to vote in a general election?
‘What do you say to those who say that your approach is designed to undermine Brexit – and ‘rig’ the voting system for national elections and referendums?
‘Is it still your view that the ‘age of adulthood in most cases’ is 18, or is this another area where you have changed your approach?’
Labour Brexit
Speaking on LBC, the opposition leader said: “There’s no plan to reverse Brexit, I don’t know how many times I’ve said there’s no case for going back in.
“We are going to make Brexit work, that’s our absolutely firm position.”
