Netflix is teaming up with Robert Rodriguez once again. This time it is to reboot the Spy Kids franchise.
More recently Rodriguez has been working within the Star Wars universe.
He directed Chapter 14 of The Mandalorian and is also serving as a director and exec producer on The Book of Boba Fett.
Spy Kids reboot
After the success of the first film it was followed by Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over
But it took until 2011 to get the fourth outing Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.
The first four movies in the series grossed under $350 million combined at the box office.
Spy Kids: Armageddon everything we know
Now after more than a decade the new film is about to drop.
Twelve years on from the fourth film we will be getting Spy Kids: Armageddon.
The director said: “I don’t know if I can say the release date, but it’s coming, it’s this year. We haven’t announced it yet, but it’s coming this year. I just finished scoring it, so you know, we’re still waiting for visual effects. It won’t be done until August, so it won’t be any earlier than August.”
The film is being distributed by Netflix
Plot
“The children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful game developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, leading them to become spies themselves to save their parents and the world.”
Actors
Zachary Levi and Gina Rodriguez star in the Spy Kids reboot.
Rotten tomatoes
The streaming giant better hope it gets a better score than Queen Cleopatra, which has been slammed by viewers and received a score of just one % on Rotten Tomatoes.
After four days on Rotten Tomatoes, Queen Cleopatra has been given just a one per cent audience rating- reportedly the worst ever documented, according to Forbes.
Forbes said: ‘Fans usually rate things higher than critics, even bad shows, and the point being, a 1 per cent audience score seems borderline mathematically impossible, even with the controversy the film has attracted.’
Spy Kids watch out the last thing you want is to face Armageddon on Rotten Tomatoes!
