The Daily Mail are never ones for the cuddly liberals, we know that, but an article yesterday seemed more sinister than normal.
It comes after the National Conservatives conference, was a Trumpian type of hoe down, with some very right wing views.
Here is just one of them.
Douglas Murray told the audience: “”I see no reason why every other country in the world should be prevented from feeling pride in itself because the Germans mucked up twice in a century.”
Mucked up isn’t quite the words we were thinking…
Daily Mail
Anyway, back to the Mail but as one Twitter account pointed out: “First the NatCs hold a conference on our shores, then the Daily Mail publishes this headline. Don’t be afraid — get angry!”
The article was titled: ‘Why many in the west are losing faith in democracy and even asking if dictators do a better job.”
Yeh, as I said even for them, this is a quite terrifying headline.
The headline is meant to scare, but the article isn’t as savage (so why make the headline the way it is?)
The article by Charles Dunst concludes saying: We must be more far-sighted and ambitious in defence of democracy. We must prove to our people that when democracy works as it is supposed to, nothing can beat us.
Because of our strengths, China, Russia and their autocratic partners do not yet rule the world. Taiwan stands proudly for the time being, despite China’s threats.
We can prevent it from falling, not by aping China, but by rallying in defence of the liberal values that so powerfully enriched the West.
The question is, has the headline already done the damage and caused the outrage they wanted?

1.
A lot of people compared it to a Daily Mail article which screamed: “Hurrah for the Blackshirts,” a facist politcal party, that press baron Lord Rothermere was a notable early supporter.
