Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Thérèse Coffey has really struggled to fight the government’s corner over the sewage crisis, and she had to deal with Martin Lewis!
It comes after Laura Kuenssberg asked her if she and her kids would be happily swimming in our seas this summer.
Coffey then called the European Environment Agency lairs, after the UK was said to have the worst waters in Europe!
Feargal Sharkey also tweeted: “Simply not true. There are just 2 stretches of river in England designated as bathing water, Ilkley and Oxford. Both have ‘no swim’ advisories posted this morning. Both are listed as having ‘Poor’ water quality.”
Martin Lewis sewage
Martin Lewis said: “It was nice, at least, after your questions on sewerage to finally be able to say accurately that that was a politician definitely talking crap.”
Stuart Davies(Brighton Sewage Protest Organiser) to BBC breakfast: “We’re quite literally sick of surfing & swimming in raw sewage… but ironically protests in Scarborough won’t be going ahead due to raw sewage discharges into the sea.. Water UK’s apology smacks of PR”
Shareholders
All of this comes as two of Britain’s biggest water firms to handout £550m to shareholders – despite sewage row and profits being dented, reports This is Money.
